Well, Seattle beat Utah tonight 3 - 0 perhaps the result the Timbers least wanted.
Seattle picked up the bonus point to win group 9 outright. Of course tomorrow's game is still important if only for pride and to get revenge for our loss in Utah.
According to the Timberlog's calculation (and at this stage with such a confusing format I stress it is only my opinion) it may still be possible to get a wildcard spot.
The thinking goes like this:
Utah now get one of the precious wildcard spots leaving only 2 for A-league teams. As it stands now [here is a table of the remaining teams] the Richmond Kickers have the most points with 20 and have 1 remaining game (on Sunday 10th against Long Island). We want Richmond to win that and go through as Group winners. Then there are Pittsburgh who have 19 points and have completed their games. The Timbers can only get a possible 18 points which could get them the second and final wildcard. Charlotte are currently on 18pts also and have completed their games. San Diego have one game remaining against Stanislaus United Cruisers (also on Sunday 10th after an earlier postponement). If they get maximum points from that game then it puts 3 clubs on 18 points and then it's down to a tie-breaker!! It could come down to goal difference with the Timbers currently on +4, Charlotte on +3 and San Diego on +2. [deep breath]
So to recap.
Basically we need to beat Utah by at least 3. Then we need Richmond to beat Long Island on Sunday. Then who knows!!
Whether this is correct or not (and knowing the Timberlog it's not!) one thing is certain. The Timbers need to go out and destroy the Blitzz in front of a packed crowd on Saturday!
